Place and connectivity

A connected agricultural economy.

Mafube sits in the northern Free State, with regional routes including the R26, R34, R103 and R707. The N3 corridor at Villiers creates a useful starting point for conversations about access, movement, markets and regional partnerships.

Productive potential

Sectors with potential

Agriculture and value chains

Grain, livestock and agricultural services provide a productive base for local enterprise and value-chain discussions.

Trade and movement

The N3 corridor at Villiers and regional routes create a basis for conversations about movement, markets and distribution.

Water and visitor economy

The Vaal Dam, Vaal, Wilge and Liebenbergsvlei systems inform agriculture, services and tourism potential, subject to assessment.

Manufacturing and services

Existing commercial and industrial activity can help identify retention needs, expansion cases and practical support requirements.

The summit uses four working tracks — Retain, Expand, Develop and Fund — to move from broad potential to prepared cases, accountable actions and appropriate follow-up. Inclusion on this page does not imply an approved project, available funding or guaranteed return.

Sources and evidence notes

Municipal profile indicators are based on Mafube Local Municipality's IDP 2026/27, especially pages 30–34 and 51. Demographic figures are Census 2022 figures reproduced in that document.

Town pages use explicitly labelled Census 2011 main-place data where available. A verified current municipal GDP, sector-output or unemployment series is not included here. Water-use rights, service capacity, land suitability and approvals require site-specific assessment.

The summit itself takes place at Frankfort Town Hall on Monday, 26 October 2026; the Villiers location belongs to the separate activation on 9 October.
